Department Of Chemical Engineering

Department Profile:

The Department of Chemical Engineering started in 1982 and 21 batches of professional Chemical Engineers have graduated who have achieved major milestones in professional, entreprenual and academic achievements. The journey through these years has been a saga of aspirations, accomplishments and achievements.
The intake in under graduate course has been increase from 30 to 60 during the year 2007. Department is recognized as research Centre during the year of 2001. The Department started Post Graduation study in M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering during 2007 and also applied for another branch to start M.Tech in Chemical Plant Design. Department accredited by NBA during the year of 2005-2006 for 3 years. Department applied for Patent on Eco friendly Bio-pesticide Extracted from Custard Apple Seeds

Why a student has to choose this field:

Overcoming Challenges:

Revitalizing the curriculum to the needs of the changing industrial and technology scenario. Actively participate in the modernization of syllabus for VTU in order to bring about the changes to update requirement.

Dissemination of the knowledge of chemical engineering through computer assisted instruction programs, teaching and learning aids for class room, course work, instruction manuals for laboratory, preparation of detailed technical information on floppies for use with computers.
  • Chemical EngineeringInteraction with other departments of other institutes, industries, universities and nodal centers to improve the quality of the education.
  • To modify and incorporate the changes in the course content in addition to the regular syllabus of VTU, to cater the needs to improve the overall quality of education. Investigate the possibility to have an independent curriculum of our own institution.
  • To inculcate quality consciousness among students and motivate them to achieve excellence in their academic performance.
  • To prepare the department as per the ISO 9002 quality specification.
  • Design to install the experiments such that the students get hands on experience to demonstrate the theory and execute in practice.
  • By co-curricular and extra curricular activities build up excellent human characteristics and interpersonal relations.
  • Attract the industrial personnel for the rapport to develop the industry-institute interaction through projects, pilot plant studies, industrial visit and training.
  • To develop attitude of competitiveness, friendship among the students by the active participation in programs conducted intra departmental, inter institutions throughout the country to develop and spread the image of the institute. To imbibe into the students that “Success comes only to those whose thoughts and action is coordinated: failure can be best taken to be the stepping stones towards success”.
  • For the staff to acquire the latest developments in the field of their interest, delegate them to various summer schools, winter schools, QIP’s, National and international seminars, conference and exhibitions.
  • To motivate the staff for self-realization and development of excellence in health, hygiene, harmony, happiness and prefectures.
  • To motivate student to be entrepreneurs so that they become job givers rather than job seekers. Identify those who have the qualities of entrepreneurs and encourage them to set up their own chemical industries.
