Department Of Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Department Profile :

Department offers three specialisation courses, viz. Marketing, Finance and Human Resource Management. The students have to choose one course as their specialization from the above, during their final year.

New subjects/ areas of study:

Foreign Language Lab
DSI offers a number of additional courses. Foreign Language lab is one of the recent additions. Out experience of teaching French to all MBA students is memorable. French, Spanish, Arabic, English, Mandarin and other foreign languages are offered in our foreign language laboratory.

CIL
The Centre for Innovation and Leadership is an innovative and first of its kind arm of DSI. This wing gives soft skill training to students. Through out the year this wing works to cater to needs of students. Practitioners would give training in addition to the in house faculty

Current Research Efforts

Research and publication is part of the Post Graduate program. Faculty published papers and participated in conferences/seminars. Faculty also worked as corporatetrainers and consultants for companies and institutions, that include companies like Jindal Steels, Hospet and JNCASR, Bangalore.

  • Student induction is a vital part of introduction to college and it includes providing information on the following issues:-

    iii. Faculty Members
    iv. Basic concepts of Management
  • The major topics covered by the faculty members include:
    i. The importance of communication
    ii. IT Skills for managers
    iii. Personality Development
    iv. Leadership, etc.
  • Audio-visual Classes - We have conducted few audiovisual classes on the following topics
    i. Communication skills by Shiv Khera
    ii. Application of Robotics in industries

Club Activities

  • HR CLUB – The faculty in charge Ms. Purnima Thampi conducted various activities. Group Discussions were conducted on HR related topics like, “Women as Managers”, “Should Husband & Wife work in the same organization?” “Should Trade Unionism be banned in India?” “Rehiring of past employees in today’s workplace”.
    The members of the club were encouraged to conduct various quiz programmes ad Management Games.
  • FINANCE CLUB – The faculty in charge, Ms. Padma KMS, conducted various co curricular activities. Students presented their views on various current trends in finance like, “Share Market”, “New Financial Strategies”, “Working of Credit rating agencies”, etc.
    Students also conducted pick and speak and quiz programs on various current trends in financial markets.
  • MARKETING CLUB - To expose the students to different aspects of marketing. Involvement will assist and facilitate students to network with other students by participating in business events. To fully develop the marketing capabilities of its members and creating awareness for marketing activities.
    The activities were coordinated by Mr. Raghu, Lecturer.

Department Strengths

DSCE-DOMS has regular knowledge sharing sessions called the K-Series. Students get best of the cutting edge knowledge from industry experts. Industry-Institute interaction is given the right focus.

Academic

Businessmen, managers, researchers and academicians are invited to share their experiences. For instance the department organized three workshops. One on the topic
“Emerging Marketing Opportunities” and the other on the topic
“The challenges and new perspectives in Human Resource Management” and on the topic of
“Managing Firms Digitally”. Marketing workshop deliberated on topics like marketing of micro finance products, organic food products and marketing of political parties. The HR conference addressed issues like attrition in ICE economy, management of human resource for brick and mortar economy and related issues. The workshop on managing firms digitally descanted issues on the emerging trends e-commerce and application of Computers is manufacturing & service in during.

Placement

The placement activity of the students starts from the beginning of Fourth semester. Thirty percent of the students were offered jobs by requested companies like ICICI, Reliance, Ernst & Young and the like.

In a big way to produce the best of the managers to the Indian and Global corporate world

Departmental LibraryMBA Class Room
The MBA department has maintained its own library for the benefit of its Students. Faculties have donated various books of interest to students to the library. The students will be exposed to the information on the various current Management journals and magazines. The library houses more than hundred books on different facets of management.

Industry Interaction

  • Industry visits to path breaking corporate houses are regularly organized with a view to expose students to industry practices. Study tours are organized to industrial towns around the country. This gives wide exposure, confidence and broadens the vision of a student.
  • Foreign Tours DSCE DOMS offers opportunity to visit foreign countries. The DSI had organized trips to Singapore, Malaysia, China, Bangkok and other places in the last academic year.
